Angie Daschel

Co-founder and Project Director

Sign: Cancer

Education: BS in Journalism (Advertising focus) from the University of Oregon

Bio: Youngest of 9 kids (that means she can play nice with a lot of people. A LOT of people.) First design project was using a mouse on her mom’s PC in 1991 to draw Disney characters in Microsoft Paint. Remembers the painful, early years of the internet and AOL. Met her husband during those painful years of AOL (Grungirl and TTABTWO 4 life.) Worked for 6 years in a busy radio sales department, supporting 35 account executives and 5 sales managers. During those years, she learned the pain points of many, many small businesses and how to alleviate them. She wrote radio copy, designed logos and graphics and ads and billboards and media kits and station websites and ecommerce websites and managed social media pages and e-newsletters and so many other things that you wouldn’t think would happen or be needed in radio? But it does. SO many weird things happen in radio. Those 6 years could be rolled into a great beach book or a tv show...probably HBO.

Anyway, Angie left radio for a marketing position at a large outlet mall, directing budgets, events and marketing initiatives for 2 years. She mastered tourism marketing and the needs of large corporate retail clients, as well as the needs of the 4 million shoppers that visited every year. Fast forward 4 years, and you’ll find Angie working in the healthcare industry, and in this case, a B2B model. She’s now well-versed in tradeshow and conference logistics, complex report and form design, product launches, and translating complex verbiage into palatable and relatable language for the general public. Her favorite song to sing at karaoke: Speechless by Lady Gaga. Likes (ok, LOVES) wine, finding restaurants for her friends to try (she’s also known as the Hungry Monster) and exploring the Pacific Northwest.

She also really loves dogs. Seriously. She will stop mid-sentence to say hello to any passing pup, and will always point them out on the street. If Angie were to have a tagline, it would probably be “Oh, look at the cute doooooooooooooog!”

Adam Rolison

Co-founder and Lead Designer

Sign: Space Cowboy

Education: BA in Media Arts from the University of Montana

Bio: Adam spent much of his youth pursuing creative endeavors, often with a mouse and keyboard in his hands. One of his first graphic design projects was scanning his 6th grade report card into Paint and and adjusting his marks from the previous semester. Proud of his creativity and resourcefulness though he was, Adam vowed to, from that point forward, use his powers for good and not evil. In high school Adam and his Friend Jim started a wildly successful (false) clothing company, PapaRoli. To this day, lucky patrons of the Salvation Army in Bozeman Montana discover treasure in the form of cheap trucker hats designed by a snot-nosed 16 year old aspiring graphic artist. Throughout high school and college Adam worked about every job a hardware store had to offer. Mixing paint to rekeying locks, driving forklifts and popping popcorn - if it needed done, Adam done it. During his time at the hardware store,  Adam started to develop a serious interest in corporate branding. Logos, package design, signage, fonts and color choice - Adam became fascinated with the decision-making and strategies that goes into developing effective and memorable marketing.

After graduation, he headed westward in search of adventure and, ideally, employment. After working a few odd jobs, he got his chance - Adam joined the marketing department of a large integrative medicine company. It was here he worked and learned and carefully honed his marketing and design skills to what they are today.

When Adam isn't tirelessly working away on design projects, he is enjoying the finer things in life: Beer. Football. Video games. Being outdoors (in video games). Not being outdoors in real life - Yech! Video games' outdoors are climate-controlled. Also, less bugs.

About Brick & Balloon

Brick and Balloon was formally established in 2018, but our staff has been working together for over 4 years as a cohesive marketing team in the health and wellness industry. Angie Daschel and Adam Rolison are behind the genius at B&B, with each one bringing a unique set of skills and experience (and really bad dad jokes, I’m looking at you, Adam) to the marketing table. We specialize in marketing strategy, graphic design, copywriting and video production, and look forward to tackling projects large and small with your business.

What’s behind the name Brick and Balloon? Well, back in college, Angie’s friend Sarah pointed out that in any relationship, there’s always someone who is the brick, and there’s always someone who is the balloon. It sounds pretty shitty to be compared to a brick, but hear us out here. If both parties were bricks, you’d just lay there, holding each other back from achieving great things. If both were balloons, you’d have nothing keep you from floating away on your crazy ideas. Both a brick and a balloon bring balance to each other. The balloon can float high and see perspective, and change gears quickly when the marketing winds shift. The brick allows for a solid foundation, with logistical weight and an anchored philosophy of practicality and real-world thinking. Adam and Angie aren’t 100% brick or 100% balloon. But after 4+ years they have both honed their realization of this concept and have learned to step up to the brick plate when needed or strap in to the balloon driver’s seat when necessary.

PS. Adam should be really proud of Angie’s sports analogy in that last part.

This concept of push and pull works so well in the marketing world because businesses need a balanced mix of innovative, amazing, crazy, laughable, memorable and kickass ideas paired with practicality, budgets, logistics and timelines. You’ll get all this with Brick and Balloon.
